Rosemount 0-8
Coralstown/Kinnegad 2-12
Unfortunately we were on the receiving end of a ten point defeat from the home side in Kinnegad on Friday evening last. Both sides were short a number of regulars due to minor and senior county commitments. Despite being totally outplayed in the opening half we made it to the break on level terms 1.3 to 6pts. Significantly, Kinnegad’s wide count at that stage was twelve to our one, so they could have been out of sight by the break. They did find their range in the second half adding 1-9 to their tally together with missing a couple of goal chances, while we were very much at sixes and sevens. The only positive from this encounter was some excellent point taking in the opening half from David Tone and David McCormack.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Dylan Hassett, Stephen Darcy(0-1), Darren King, Shane Tone, Enda Boland, Luke Kelly, Dude McCormack(0-3), David Mullen, Danny Digan(0-1), Richie O’Brien, Daniel Boland, Danny Fielding, David Tone(0-3), Paddy Malynn. Subs: Neil Kelly, Niall Boland and Cathal Boland for Daniel Boland, Stephen Darcy and David Mullen.

Intermediate Championship
Rosemount 5-5
Shandona 1-9
Rosemount recovered from the setback of conceding an early goal, to record an excellent 8 point win over Shandona, in the first round of the intermediate championship in Moate on Saturday. With Declan Mullen and Dude McCormack in sparkling form, scoring 2-1 apiece, we looked like we were really up for this game. Declan first found the net after just 12 minutes and again on 17, with Dude Mc Cormack doing likewise in between, after working his way in from near the corner flag. Winning breaking ball at midfield resulted in a good supply of ball to the forward line throughout. Even with 3 first half goals we were still only 4 points to the good at the break, 3-2 to 1-4. Shandona reduced the deficit to 3 after the restart but that was as close as it got. DD McCormack who worked tirelessly throughout, then got on the green flag trail with 5minutes remaining, when he rounded the keeper, soccer stile and slotted home off the post. Dude then added the final goal in injury time after receiving a clever knockdown from substitute Theo Watts. Winning the opening game of the championship is something we haven’t done for some time so hopefully it will be the catalyst for greater performances in the remaining games. It was also encouraging to see that our championship debutants, Dylan, Darren, TJ and Theo acquitted themselves well. It was brilliant to see Patrick Boland back on the playing field after his 12 month layoff. Unfortunately it was all too brief, as he picked up another nasty injury immediately after replacing his brother Eamon, who also went off injured just before the break. We wish them both a speedy recovery.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Dylan Hassett, Eamon Boland, Darren King, Shane Tone, Enda Boland, Luke Kelly, Declan Mullen(2-1), Stephen Darcy, David Mullen(0-1), James Geoghegan, DD McCormack(1-1), David Tone, Dude McCormack(2-1), David Malynn(0-1).Subs used: Paddy Boland for Eamon Boland, TJ. Fox for P. Boland, Danny Fielding for Declan Mullen,Theo Watts for D.Tone.

Intermediate Championship
This weekend sees the start of the 2012 club championships. We are pitted against Shandona on Saturday, throw in 6.45pm in Moate. This forms part of a double header, with Ballymore taking on Ballinagore at 5.15pm. We have met Shandona on a number of occasions in recent years, with all being close encounters. Saturday’s game isn’t likely to be any different. A winning start would be a big advantage going into the ‘Summer Recess’, as the next game, we believe is not due for some time. The team is likely to be along similar lines to the one that defeated St Malachys in the league. It’s great to see Paddy Boland back in training after his dreadful injury a year ago. Hopefully he will be able to see some competitive action before the year is out.
Fixtures & Results
Our u14s overturned a recent feile result with an excellent win over Millmore Gaels, 2-9 to 7 points.
After next Saturday, our next adult fixture is due to be in Div6, away to Milltownpass on Tue 24th April.

Div6
Rosemount 1-7
Shandona 1-11
This game, played on Thursday last in Shandona, looked like a run-away victory for the home side until the final 15 minutes, when our lads put in a storming finish to leave just four points between the sides. Had we taken the chances on offer in the opening half we could have been close on level terms at the break, instead we were seven behind, 9 points to 2. We went on to concede a goal and two points after the restart. We then turned the game around scoring 1-5 without reply in the final quarter, the goal coming for David Mullen. Had we started our revival a little earlier we could just as easily have taken the points, but Shandona were the better outfit over the hour. Team: Richie O’Brien, Dylan Hassett, Peter Keenan, Darren King, Paddy Keenan, Eamon Boland, Luke Kelly, Thomas Duffy, Paddy Malynn, Niall Boland, Brian Clarke, Kevin Connell, Barry Fielding, David Mullen, Daniel Boland. Subs used: John O’Connor, John Keenan, Des Collins, Cathal Boland, Eoin Reilly
Div2
Rosemount 2-8
St Malachys 0-8
We picked up another two points in division two after a highly entertaining encounter with St Malachys in the park on Saturday evening last. This was a fast, free-flowing game from start to finish, much more like summer championship fare than early season league. A well taken goal from top scorer David(dude) McCormack helped us to make it level terms at the break, 1-2 to5 points. With the aid of a strong breeze in the second half, we put some excellent moves together and dominated the remainder of the game. The 2nd goal, a low drive to the bottom corner, came from David Mullen 10minutes from the end.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Darren King, Eamon Boland, Dylan Hassett, Shane Tone, Enda Boland, Luke Kelly, Stephen Darcy, Declan Mullen(0-1), David Mullen(1-0), James Geoghegan, DD McCormack, David Tone(0-3), Dude McCormack(1-3), David Malynn(0-1).

When planning Activities for 2012 it was decided to begin with a Question & Answer Session (most requested Activity from the Members).and what an Event this turned out to be .
Those taking Questions included Eugene McGee (Irish Independent),Seamus O'Faolain, Paddy Collins,(Former Co Chairman/Secretary), Gerry Buckley (Westmeath Examiner), Sean Kilbride (GAA Social Initiative ) and Liam Keane (Chairman GAA Central Hearing Committee)
In excess of 50 former Players of the GAA attended and the MC for the Evening, John Burke had to be quick off the mark with the speed and range of Questions addressed to the Panel. Not surprisingly the main questions surrounded Payment to Managers (Club and County), Inconsistency among Referees and the abuse Referees have to put up with, Change in the way the Game is being played-importing “soccer thinking” and Club versus County -too much attention to County to the detriment of Clubs.
Among those in attendance were Sean Cleary, George Keane, TJ Finneran, Paddy Buckley, Joe Murphy, Oliver McManus, Tony Gilligan and many more.
Following Hospitality by the Ladies Committee a number of Games were replayed and great banter continued till late.
Eugene McGee presented the Club with a pair of Football Boots used in the 50’s which cost 17 shillings and 6 pence. Eugene also passed round the Football that was used in the 1982 All Ireland where Seamus Darby’s goal dramatically ended the dream of an historic Kerry Five-in-a Row

Rosemount 2-15 Tang 2-19 (aet)
It took extra time to separate the sides in Tuberclaire on Saturday evening last in the final of the Intermediate cup. This was a ding-dong battle throughout with never more than a couple of points between the sides for most of the game. Our first goal came in the opening half courtesy of cornerback Paddy Wade when he picked up a loose cross on the edge of the square. Paddy Malynn provided the second with about ten minutes of normal time remaining. We were three to the good in the closing minutes and looked as though we would hold out, when Tang equalised, forcing extra time. Fulltime score , 2-12 apiece. Tang had that little extra in the tank closing out the game with four points to spare. This was a very spirited performance given the time of year.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Luke Kelly, John Keane, Paddy Wade(1-0), Shane Tone, Eamon Boland, Paddy Keenan, Declan Mullen(0-2), Enda Boland, David Tone(0-7), Dude McCormack(0-4), Declan Keane, James Geoghegan, David Mullen(0-1), Paddy Malynn(1-0). Barry Fielding(0-1) for P. Keenan.

AGM
Our annual general meeting took place on Sunday last. Outgoing chairman, Michael Havevy thanked all who helped him over the past three years. He in turn was commended for his work, which earned an enormous applause. Given that he was going to be a hard act to follow, there was an evitable reluctance to take up the post. Colm Boland has agreed to the position for the coming year. Secretary, Paddy Malynn recounted the year’s activities. The main topic for discussion was the success of underage teams, against a backdrop of falling numbers in the club. Next year’s minor team will have less than four players on their last year at the grade while the under8s and 10s are in a similar situation. Amalgamation is not an easy option but may be inevitable if numbers continue to fall.
County Convention
The Westmeath convention will take place in the hall on 10th December.

We lost out to Tang on a score line of 1-11 to 1-8 in the first round of the 13-a-side championship on bank holiday Monday. It was a game where we had our chances and were in contention till the final few minutes. That said, the visitors were the stronger side on the day and finished deserving winners. Incidentally, they also defeated Castledaly in the next round.
St Brigid’s
Congratulations to our u16 combination side who overcame St Patrick’s in the premier final in Cusack Park on bank holiday Monday. With just the minimum between the sides at the break, St Brigids went three ahead early in the 2nd period. When it looked as if we would push on from here, St Patricks came back to within a point. After a nail biting final ten minutes, St Brigids held on for a well deserved victory. St Brigids(Moate/Rosemount 0-9 - St Patricks(Ballinacargy/Millmore Gales/Shandona) 1-5

Moate Ladies
Well done to Moate ladies under 12 side who overturned an 8 point half time deficit to defeat Killucan by 5 points in their “A” division final two weeks ago in Kinnegad.
Unfortunatly their U14 counterparts failed to pull off a similar feat in their “A” final in Ballymore on Saturday last. A three goal blitz from Milltown in the space of ten minutes left them with too much ground to make up. To their credit they pulled it back to four points but Milltown finished stronger.

Intermediate Championship
Rosemount 0-7
Shandonagh 0-7
Despite a great effort from everyone we came away from Cusack Park with a draw which means our Championship season for 2011 is over. Unfortunately on a very windy evening our scoring accuracy, particularly in the second half was a major factor. Not for the first time this year has our failure to kick scoreable frees let us down. It took 13 minutes to register our first score, despite playing with the aid of a strong breeze. We reached the break two in front, thanks to points from David Tone, Declan Mullen, Donal Boland and David Malynn(2). However we could only manage two solitary points for the entire second half, due largely to our inability to take the few frees on offer. Unfortunately the major talking point during the second match was the inconsistency of refereeing between the two games. It appeared both officials were using separate sets of rules.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Paddy Wade , Stephen Darcy, John Keane(0-1), Eamon Boland, Enda Boland, Luke Kelly, Declan Mullen(0-1), Donal Boland(0-1), David Tone(0-2), Cyril Elliffe, Declan Keane, David Malynn(0-2), David McCormack, John Keenan. Ballinagore 0-4
We picked up two badly needed points in Castletown on Friday evening last at the expense of Ballinagore. We finally played the kind of football we know we are capable of, albeit against a very weak side, who themselves are likely to be in trouble at the end of the season. Long direct ball into the forwards paid dividends from the start. This coupled with some loose marking meant we could shoot on sight. Being 12 points to 2 up at the break and continuing to dominate in the second half the game petered out to it’s inevitable conclusion. In all we had eight players on the score sheet and hopefully we can hold on to our scoring boots for the Shandona game in two weeks time.

Rosemount 1-3
Tang 0-11
This game, played at Ballymore last Saturday evening, was never going to be a high scoring or free flowing match. Number 1 factor was the weather. The incessant rain that fell throughout the day and during the match made for very difficult ball handling conditions. The second factor was that we played with an extra defender, restricting Tang’s scoring opportunities. Unfortunately this only served to stifle our own attack, limiting us to a single point in the opening half. At five points to one on the restart, one would have expected a change of tactic. It didn’t happen. Tang were physically stronger in the middle third of the park, winning more of the broken ball. They were also more accurate in front of goal, outscoring us by 6 points to 2 in the second half. The goal came in added time, courtesy of full back, Stephen Darcy, who made a rare foray up field to latch on to a cross. (Indeed, we may all be ‘latching on to our crosses’ for the remaining games in the hope of picking up vital points.) Next up is Ballinagore in two weeks time, followed by Shandona. Two must win games.
Team: Eoin Carberry, John Keane, Stephen Darcy, Paddy Wade, Shane Tone, Enda Boland, Luke Kelly, Declan Mullen, Declan Keane, David Malynn, Cyril Elliffe, David Tone, David McCormack, David Mullen, Donal Boland. Subs used: Eamon Boland for D. Mullen, Richie O Brien for D. Malynn.

ACFL Div2
Rosemount 3-6
Caulry 0-7
We played our final game in the div2 league on Sunday morning in the park where Caulry were the visitors. 2-2 from play by Dude McCormack left us in a very commanding position after an excellent opening half. Half time tally 2-5 to 2 points. The standard dropped and the scores dried up considerably in the second period. A trademark run from John Keane put David Mullen through for goal number three. With this well deserved win we finish Div2 in third spot on 11 points, with Tang and Shandona on 14 and 13 points respectively.
Team: Eoin Carberry, Paddy Wade, Enda Boland, Eamon Boland, Paddy Keenan, John Keane, Luke Kelly, Declan Mullen, Declan Keane, Cyril Elliffe, Donal Boland, David Tone, Thomas Duffy(0-1), David Mullen(1-1), David McCormack(2-3). Subs used: Stephen Darcy for P.Keenan, John Keenan(0-1) for T. Duffy, Brian Clarke for D.Tone, Eoin Reilly for D. Mullen.
The next outing for the 1st team will be in Ballymore on 16th July where we take on Tang in the championship.

ACFL Div2
Rosemount 2-9
St Lomans 1-12
We took on Milltownpass in a div2 league game on Tuesday of last week in the park. We needed a point from fullback, John Keane, 4 minutes into injury time to salvage a draw. We were seven points clear midway through the opening half, having received goals from David Mullen and David Tone. But the visitors picked off several points in the second half and left us trailing by three with ten minutes remaining. With the accurate free taking of David Malynn and the late equaliser we managed a draw which we scarcely deserved.
Team: TJ Fox, Derek Keenan, John Keane(0-1), Paddy Wade, Paddy Keenan, Enda Boland, Shane Tone, Declan Keane, Donal Boland, David Malynn(0-4), Declan Mullen(0-3), Cyril Elliffe, David Tone(1-1), David Mullen(1-0), Paddy Malynn. Subs used: Brian Clarke for P. Malynn, Ronald Mullen for C. Elliffe, John Keenan for B. Clarke.

Rosemount 2-3
St Lomans 1-16
We took a bit of a hammering in Lakepoint park on Tuesday night last with a ten point defeat from a home side, who were minus their county players. Dude McCormack opened the scoring with an excellent point after five minutes but it was all St Lomans from then on. By the break we were 1-8 to 1-1 in arrears, with Dude again raising a green flag. Had we converted some of our missed chances we could have been much closer. We defended better in the second period as the home side emptied their bench. A converted penalty and a free from Dude, and a point from David Malynn in the final minutes did paper over some of the cracks.
Team: TJ Fox, Derek Keenan, Stephen Darcy, Paddy Wade, Paddy Keenan, Enda Boland, Shane Tone, Declan Mullen, John Keane, David Malynn(0-1), Donal Boland, Declan Keane, Brian Clarke, Richie O’Brien, Dude McCormack(2-2). Subs used: DD McCormack, Paddy Malynn, David Mullen, John Keenan, Peter Keenan.

Div2
Rosemount 2-8
St Malachys 1-9
A good workmanlike performance saw us pick up both points against St Malachys in Castletown on Tuesday of last week. Our first goal came after ten minutes when Eamon Boland dropped a long ball into the square which the keeper failed to deal with. The second came five minutes later when Richie collected a ball behind the defence and was left one on one with the keeper. He made no mistake. Our half time lead of 2-3 to 4 points was reduced to 2 midway through the second half as the home side started to find the target. But we picked up the pace a little again to maintain a two point lead to the end. This win leaves us in 3rd spot in Div2 on 8 points with Tang and Shandona just ahead on 12 and 9 points respectively.
Eoin Carberry, Paddy Wade, John Keane, Luke Kelly(0-1), Enda Boland, Paddy Keenan, Declan Mullen, Eamon Boland(1-0), Brian Clarke, Richie O’Brien(1-0), Shane Tone, Paddy Malynn, Declan Keane, David Malynn(0-6). Subs used: Donal Boland(0-1)for P Malynn, David Mullen for R. O’Brien.
The next div2 fixture is provisionally fixed for 7th June in St Lomans (TBC)

Milltownpass 0-5
We picked up our first points of the championship with a seven point win over Milltownpass in Athlone on Saturday evening. But for most of the game it was far from comfortable. We struggled to find our composure for much of the first half. However we did go in at the break with a slender lead, thanks to a penalty, expertly taken by David McCormack. With some stout defending and more accurate passing in the second period we eventually started to pull away. The win was marred by a nasty hip injury to ‘Man of the Match’ Patrick Boland with twelve minutes remaining. We wish Paddy a full and speedy recovery.

18-April-2011
Next weekend sees the start of the Intermediate championship. We play Coralstown/Kinnegad in Cusack Park on Saturday week,30th April at 5.15pm. Kinnegad will be anxious to bounce back to senior ranks immediately, having been relegated last year. We, on the other hand will get an opportunity to prove we can compete at that level. Our 13 point defeat to Tang in the league last weekend will have done little for our confidence but hopefully it can serve as a wakeup call for the championship.
Crime Prevention Meeting
Resulting from recent events within our Community a meeting will take place on Wednesday next 27th April at 8.30 pm in the Community Centre. The meeting is to discuss ways and means to best safeguard our community going forward.
